Sellmark Sponsors Annual Youth Hog Hunt
Sellmark recently sponsored the 5th Annual Kaufman County Urban Youth Hunt earlier this month near Mabank, Texas. Coordinated each year by Game Warden Eric Minter, the event allows at-risk urban residents between the ages of seven and 17 and their families to engage in hunting, shooting and food preparation. Many being first-time shooters, 21 youth members joined in on firearms training, target shooting and a group hunt for feral hogs, which were butchered and cleaned for interested members to observe.
Led by a variety of hunting education instructors for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the hunt represented an extension of the principles taught such as firearm and hunting safety, as well as basic hunter responsibilities and ethics. Seven game wardens were joined by volunteers from numerous surrounding organizations:
• Texas State Rifle Association
• Dallas Police Department
• Dallas Fire & Rescue
• Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department
• Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas
• Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
• International Hunter Education Association USA
Sellmark was pleased to provide products for the hunt. President James Sellers, CEO Dianna Sellers and their two sons, Mason (16) and Mitchell (13) joined in on the action.
